This one is really simple and my favorite, but I know it might not be everyone’s cup of tea…er, green monster :p

As many handfuls of spinach that you think your stomach can handle (and then add one more!)
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup almond milk
5 ice cubes
and tons and tons of cinnamon!!!

Enjoy!

Ever since reading your blog for the first time- about 3 weeks ago I have been hooked on green monsters. Slowly, I have gotten my husband and son to take a liking to them. They are brilliant!! I have been doing tons of experiments and came up with one of the hubs favorites this afternoon for snack. While it isn’t completely clean- it is a great start for him.

Caramel Apple GM
3 oz of fresh spinach
1-4 oz container of plain low fat Oikos greek yogurt
1 large green apple
1 container of litehouse reduced sugar 100 calorie caramel dip
Ice

Made two green monsters served in margarita glasses! Each come out to about 161 calories, 35g carbs, 7.5 g fiber, and 8 g protein

There is a trend in the healthy eating world: the Green Monster Smoothie. As you can see, it’s an unnatural (or perhaps supernatural) shade of green. The secret ingredient? Spinach!

Now, I know what you’re thinking: ew. Spinach smoothie. But there is a secret: raw spinach has nearly no flavour. Add a banana, some PB – and it tastes like dessert!

Green Monster Smoothie
1 cup milk
1 cup raw spinach
1 frozen banana
1 tbsp peanut butter
(optional: 1 tbsp flax seed meal, protein powder)

Blend all in a blender. Drink up!

Hi Ange! Here’s my latest concoction:

Chocolate Peanut Butter Blueberry Green Monster

– 3 cups spinach
– 1 cup almond milk
– 1 scoop Chocolate protein powder
– handful of blueberries
– 1 T peanut butter
– several cubes ice (enough to cool down in this hot AZ heat!)

Just blend together, and drink up! It sounds like a weird combo, but
it’s based on one of my favorite protein-friendly throw-together
desserts for when I’m really craving chocolate: a scoop of chocolate
protein powder, with a tablespoon or two of peanut butter, handful of
blueberries and stir in enough water to make a chocolatey gooey paste,
kind of like pudding. Trust me, it’s delish 😉

I first learned of the GM from a message board, and soon found your awesome site!  My husband and I are both trying to get more leafy greens in our diet; I also like to do morning workouts and hate feeling too full from breakfast.  Our favorite GM is still the virgin, but today we tried one that we loved!  It’s very fruity, but perfect on a day like today (hot and sticky in NYC!)

This makes 2 tall glasses:
*1 medium orange
*1/2 cup frozen pineapple
*1 frozen banana
*1 cup unsweetened pomegranate juice + 1/2 cup water
*4 cups organic spinach

It’s pretty pulpy, but we liked it that way!  My pic is actually an old virgin GM, since I was too lazy to snap a new one this morning.

I am really in love with Green Monsters, since drinking them every morning I find I do not need coffee!  I am totally awake and energized even after a hard early morning work out.  I love that I am getting fruits AND veggies in one place and they are especially perfect on these hot summer days!  My boyfriend’s mother brought us a bag of peaches so I figured I would throw them in my GM.  The peaches make the GMs so sweet and delicious!  I may need to freeze some peaches so I can make these in the dead of winter 🙂

1/2 frozen banana
1 peaches, chopped
1 cup milk
1 scoop Amazing Grass Wheatgrass powder
1 big handful of spinach
1 tablespoon of almond butter

Hi Angela,

My Green Monster has:

1 frozen banana
1 cup unsweetened soy milk
1 tablespoon of peanut butter
2 cups fresh spinach
1/2 cup of blueberries
1/4 teaspoon of flax seed

This is such a filling and delicious treat – it just tastes like peanut butter and banana.  In the mornings it really energizes me and keeps me satisfied for several hours.  Yum!
