Elizabeth’s Green Monster:

I can’t remember how I first started adding spinach into my smoothies.  I might have run across OSG and other websites simultaneously (Dr. Joel Fuhrman calls them “blended salads”) and it stopped seeming crazy to put greens in ma drank and started seeming logical.

I don’t like all fruit smoothies because I am hungry instantaneously after I finish them.  I don’t find that is the case with GMs. I am satisfied for a couple of hours after my GM. I also find that they are very cleansing — I need to hop off to the bathroom within about 15 minutes of drinking one in the morning.  For my girls who suffer from sluggish digestion, this is a good thing.

My morning smoothie is as follows:
First, 1 cup frozen strawberries and 1 frozen banana.
(freezing banana is KEY, I just realized it makes it taste sweeter)
Then, 1 cup cold water and 1 cup non-dairy milk (I have tried coconut milk, hemp milk, and almond milk.  Coconut milk obviously rocks, but I usually settle for almond milk for the taste and low calories).

I add 1 scoop Amazing Grass Green Super Food
1 tablespoon ground flax seed
4 drops vanilla stevia
and then I stuff the remaining space in the blender with fist fulls of spinach and/or kale.  I cram it in the remaining space.  The order of ingredients is very important because if I put frozen fruit on the top, it doesn’t blend as well.
