Katie’s Green Monster

I had heard of putting spinach in smoothies before, but thanks to Angela’s blog became encouraged to begin having one every day (sometimes twice a day!).  I’ve been doing so for a month now, experimenting with lots of different add-ins.  It’s hard to go wrong with these smoothies! They are THAT awesome.
I’ve even completely replaced my morning coffee with GM’s and feel better than ever!

My Basic GM recipe:
3 big handfuls of spinach
1c unsweetened almond milk
1 tbsp peanut butter
2 tbsp ground flax
1 small-ish banana
1 scoop “Vege-greens”

Cantaloupe with almond butter is also FANTASTIC!

Thank you, Angela for the inspiration!  I’m completely addicted! 🙂

Genie’s Green Monster

I have always had an interest in all things nutritious, so when I stumbled across Green Monsters, this was no different! However, I am a figure competitor, so when I am dieting for shows, I usually don’t get all the yummy add-ins I usually see in blogs (like nut butters).  I have to make them lower calories, so this is my favorite go-to GM when I have to keep my calories in check!

150g baby spinach
1 banana
1 scoop protein powder (Chocolate Ultimate Muscle Provider by Beverly International or Chocolate by All they Whey)
1/2-1c water

And that’s it! It keeps my calories low enough that I still eat under maintenance, and I still get to eat a lot of greens! YUM!

Thanks! and have a wonderful day! 🙂

I love the green monsters!  I think of the sweet satisfying goodness and then remember – YAY!  approximately 3 servings of fruits and vegetables!

This one has blueberries, strawberries, banana, 2% milk and 2 handfuls of spinach.  LOVE IT!

My favorite recipe is 1 cup mango, 1/2 banana, 2% milk, vanilla protein powder and 2 handfuls of spinach.  That one is a much prettier green!

Jenna’s Green Monster

It contained a small handful of blueberries (from the farmer’s market), half a banana, a handful of kale (from my garden), two splashes vanilla soy milk, 4 ice cubes and  two spoonfuls of blueberry greek yogurt.

This green monster had flecks of blueberry in it which I thought took my mind off the kale a little.  The kale from my garden is very strong as I tend to grow more than I can eat so it gets a bit out of control.  The blueberry flavor was a good mask for it!  And the banana was for sweetness and texture.  I have an ages old mixer that I refuse to give up because it works like CHARM!  But it doesn’t particularly like ice cubes so I have to fish out the larger chunks when I make smoothies.  Which is cool with me, I love you grandpa Oster!

Emily’s Green Monster

This is my first ever green monster! I wrote about it on my blog.
The smoothie contained:
1 cup almond breeze,  regular
1/2 packet Jay Robb’s whey protein, vanilla flavor
a handful strawberries
Half a frozen banana
some frozen blueberries
and most importantly
2 handfuls of spinach

Overall i thought it was way too sweet, which i attributed to the Jay Robb powder which contained stevia along with the regular almond breeze. I do not like super sweet stuff so i have since tweaked my recipe. I only use unsweetened almond breeze, and i leave out the protien powder, i always add flax seed now too. They have become my breakfast of choice. My mix this morning had Spinach, almond breeze, 1T almond butter, banana, flax. Very simple, very delicious.

I love reading everyone elses “recipes” because they give me so many great ideas!
