1 frozen banana
1 cup unsweet Almond Breeze
3 handfuls spinach
3 slices frozen peach
1 tbs Agave nectar
crushed ice

GM-smoothie.3.28.10Since being introduced to the Green Monster from your blog, I have been making it a couple of times a week and have also introduced my husband to it.. my husband has enjoyed it so much he now makes it more then me.. thank you for starting this movement.. it’s wonderful. my usual green monster includes:

– 2 cups fresh spinach
– 1 banana
– 1c Almond Vanilla milk
-1/4c pumpkin
– 1 Activia light yogurt

Photo-on-2010-01-18-at-07.20-4I live in a tiny little guesthouse so all of my big kitchen gadgets are sitting all alone at my parents house. I really wanted to try a green monster but I couldn’t fit all of the ingredients in my Magic Bullet blender….so what did I do? I use all frozen stuff so I can leave out the ice cubes. It’s brilliant!

Here’s what I do

1 cup frozen spinach
1/2 frozen banana, sliced
1 – 1.5 cups unsweetened chocolate almond milk
1 Tbsp. flaxseed meal

Blend, put on your brightest green sweatpants, and enjoy!

wheatgrass_smoothieI’ve tried green smoothies before, after a friend of a friend swore by them for better nutrition; however, her always tated kind of… well, grassy. Soemthing to do with the dandelion and random sprouts she added I suppose.

So I’ve endeavoured to make a better one, and man do frozen bananas make a difference. Here’s what I has this morning:

1/2C coconut milk
3/4C OJ, with pulp
1/2C water (More water as needed to thin mixture to desired consistency)
1Tbsp ground flax
1tsp spirulina powder
2 handfuls of fresh washed spinach
1C (roughly) frozen blueberries
1 large, frozen banana
1/2 tray of ice

Light stuff to the bottom, heavy stuff on top, add liquids and blend until it makes a bveautiful blue-green potion. This filled two 10-12oz. drink thermoses with goodness, the second of which I’m currently drinknig at work. I should be fueled up for hours!

Love this movement – thanks. I’ve been making green smoothies for a while and recently got into it again when my immersion blender arrived – makes cleaning up so easy. 🙂

Here’s today’s recipe:

Razz-ma-tazz Green Giant (use organic ingredients when possible)
1/2 small banana
1/3-1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1 scoop green powder (I happen to have Green Vibrance)
1 large handful spinach
2 teaspoons maca powder
dash vanilla
a few “glugs” of unsweetened almond milk
thin with water, if you wish

Monica’s Green Monster

project2-071I decided to try making my own green monster after reading about it on another blog. Let me just tell you, the sight of it does not match the taste! While I think it looks down right awful, the taste is excellent!

Ingredients:
1 cup banana (frozen)
1 scoop chocolate whey powder
1 cup milk
3 handfuls of spinach
1 tbsp peanut butter

gmI finally took the plunge and started making myself Green Monsters a few weeks ago.  YUM!  After realizing how healthy AND yummy they are, I decided I needed to start making them for my kids. They have been enjoying smoothies forever now (#3 calls them “moothies”) so I just had to start making them green.  Or brown in our case, which is the colour they end up being with the addition of strawberries or raspberries.  (Though you can’t really see their colour too well with coloured smoothie cups.)

Their favorite recipe:

-Banana
-2% milk
-Frozen strawberries or raspberries (or any berries)
-Ice
-Yogurt or cottage cheese
-Spinach
-Flax seed or hemp hearts
-A little stevia to bring out the sweetness of the berries

I feel like such a great mom when I can get them to eat well!  Three cheers for Green Monsters!

On my way to teach a yoga class and thanks to your inspiration I made this shake:

In blender:
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup of organic tofu
1 heaping tbsp carob powder
1 tbsp organic cocoa powder
1 cup organic baby spinach
1/2 cup frozen wild blueberries
1 cup organic vanilla rice milk
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger powder
a splash of agave nectar

Blend and enjoy sip by sip.

Perfect pre-yoga tide-me-over!
