greenI’ve been trying to make a green monster ever since I discovered your “movement”.  But the problem was, I was so used to putting all kinds of nut butters and frozen fruits into my smoothies that I never got a green monster.  It was usually brown or purple.  Well, after experimenting this week with more greens, and less others stuff, I used yesterday’s CSA box as the perfect green monster embryo!

Ingredients:
1 banana
5 pitted medjool dates
1/4 c frozen blueberries
1/2 tsp. spirulina powder
1/2 tsp chia seeds
1 large kale leaf
2 large chard leaves
10-15 large spinach leaves
5 large rapini leaves
(basically one heaping plate full of leafy greens)

Blend until dates disappear!

green-monsterSince I’ve been a little girl, I’ve always hated vegetables… with a passion. The thought of them actually makes me gag. (Ok, so maybe I’m being a LITTLE dramatic.) Back in January, I joined Weight Watchers and started working out and have lost about 70 lbs. Now, I hit somewhat of a plateau for a few weeks and wasn’t losing any more weight. It was then I decided I needed to start sneaking veggies into the foods I already liked. It couldn’t be too terrible, right? I gave a Green Monster smoothie and chance and it was DE-LISH. I cannot get enough of them.

1 cup unsweetened almond (or nonfat) milk
1 handful spinach leaves
1 scoop Jay Robb’s Chocolate Egg White Protein
1/2 banana
1-2 tablespoons instant coffee
1 teaspoon PB2
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon flax seed
pinch of cinnamon
1/2 cup ice

Blend together and enjoy!

Ok, so I heard about this from a friend of mine and we actually nicknamed the drink “Oscar” after Sesame Street. 🙂 She made it for me at her house and I knew I was hooked. I love yummy tasting drinks and food that are great for you; it makes eating healty easier!

I made my first drink just now and let me tell you…I was impressed! I put my own spin on it and have to say: I could drink this all day, everyday! I don’t measure when I cook, only when I bake. So my fingers were crossed when I was throwing everything in! So here goes:

Organic spinach
Organic banana
Ice cubes
Bolthouse Farms: Soy Vanilla Chai Tea
Gran~biotics: vanilla almond crunch granola
Cinnamon
Honey

So YUMMY!!!…you gotta try it!

166586509This was my first attempt at a green monster. It wasn’t green (hello, blueberries!) but it was delicious. Far too thick to drink, I opted to eat it with a spoon and sprinkle it with walnuts, turning it into a breakfast reminiscent of a sundae.

In the mix:
-1/4 avocado
-2 cups spinach
-1 raw egg (I only consume organic farm fresh eggs–use with caution)
-1/4 cup plain yogurt
-1/2 cup frozen blueberries
-1/2 cup frozen pineapple tidbits
-1 scoop Amazing Grass Superfood

Blend all togetha! If it isn’t blending well enough, add a touch of milk until it does.

Sprinkle with walnuts.

Eat with spoon in a large fancy glass. Marvel at your ability to enjoy this as you would ice cream. I pity the fool who cannot appreciate the GM

photo-3I made my first “Monster” in my (rather ancient) Magic Bullet. I lightly steamed baby spinach then added banana and organic skim milk… It looked, well, green (!) and tasted…really good!
After a few weeks of enjoying my morning Monster, Anthony started requesting them too. I quickly realised that I needed to upgrade to a new blender to cope with the demand!

We started to experiment with ingredients:

Anthony’s Green Monster Mayhem (makes 2)
* ripe banana
* cup (or two – I add more than he does) of lightly steamed spinach
* 3 scoops of chocolate protein powder
* 2-3 spoons of plain organic youghurt
* tray of ice cubes
* organic skim milk or organic soy milk

breakfastI’ve began adding protein shakes to my nutritional routine because I’ve been finding it difficult to lose weight. Over the past five years I’ve cut things out, modified, and become more organic but nothing worked and I found myself with less and less energy. In the course of my research, I came across one man who said he made his shakes with spinach. It’s now become one of my favorite drinks, so imagine my delight when I came across your Green Monster Movement. This shake is made with 2 cups pineapple juice, one banana, 1/2 cup of frozen mango chunks and a scoop of Designer Whey. I whir them together with my Cuisinart Stick which I find works much more efficiently than any blender I’ve ever owned. Oh, yes, and I do believe I have more energy when I stick to the routine of having at least one Green Monster a day.
